The London Pirates

Radio Badger (91.9 FM, 93.1 FM, 93.2 FM, 93.3 FM) 1985 - 1987

Coverage: West London/ Middlesex

DJs: Paul Dodd, Terry Peters, Mike C.

Radio Badger first began occasional test broadcasts to the west London/Middlesex area in December 1985, but regular evening broadcasts didn’t commence until in mid-May 1987. It could usually be heard seven days a week from 8pm onwards, often when LWR was off the air. The station was raided several times, and a particularly thorough bust on Tuesday 15th September 1987 may have finished them off for good. TX Magazine reported in its November ‘87 edition that Badger planned to broadcast on Short Wave as an alternative, but it is not know whether this ever happened.

The music content was mainly Soul, though in March 1987 ex-JFM DJ Paul Dodd could be heard playing Rare Groove and break beats on his ‘PD Experience’ show, so it seems he had maintained an interest in Hip Hop from his JFM days.
